West Beach Surf Life Saving Club
Winner - 2024 MBA Excellence in a Commercial/Industrial Building $5M to $10M Award
The project involved the construction of a new double storey Surf Life Saving Club designed to accommodate public recreational and dining facilities, as well as surf lifesaving amenities.
The building features high end finishes for public areas, and specific durable materials to suit its coastal location and surf lifesaving operations. The commercial bar and kitchen required careful services coordination and consultation with the client including their nominated trades.
An extensive structural design including CFA piling and reinforced concrete foundations adapted to suit its location and building in sand, along with intricate structural steel, roofing and cladding with specialised coatings used to withstand the marine environment but also constructed to suit the complex geometry of the design which capitalises on making the most of its prominent site.
Lower basement level walls were constructed from face finished feature blockwork that required protection throughout the build to maintain quality. We also adopted a ‘lessons learnt’ document using our experience from previous similar projects as well as a detailed site-specific quality management plan to minimise non-conformances and ensure the correct fixings/materials were used to combat corrosion.
