BAE Large Titanium Machining Facility

Partek were engaged by BAE Systems to construct the new JSF titanium Machining Facility at Edinburgh Parks. The single level 1200m2 facility stands approximately 12.5 metres in height and contains a titanium milling machine which was constructed in Switzerland.

The machine itself is only the second of its kind in the world and the titanium components created by this machine is used on the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) jet wings. The specialised footing for the machine is 18m long x 12.2m wide x 2.0m deep and contains close to 500m3 of special grade concrete along with 23 tonnes of steel reinforcement.

The steel structure comprises of 1m wide columns and 0.9m wide rafters which allows the building to have a clear span of 34m with no internal columns supports. The building is cladded using colorbond custom orb cladding and is temperature controlled by an elaborate mechanical system setup.

Outstanding work & delivery of a project ahead of our anticipated schedule.
