The Belair Childcare development involved the renovation and extension of an existing heritage cottage on a sloping site overlooking Adelaide’s CBD and its surrounds.
Externally, we had to maintain the façade and appearance of the existing building which required reinstatement of its external stone work, and replacement of existing enclosed verandas & roofing. A feature of the build was the integration of old and new, with the new extension of the building flowing on seamlessly from the existing, utilising matching gable roof pitches and rendered blockwork keeping with the theme of the heritage site.
The brand new childcare facility, which houses up to 94 children, has a high quality modern finish with touches of colour throughout its interior with sections of the traditional stone work and heritage showing through. The exterior is much the same although the hero is the redundant Socata TB10 Tobago aircraft installed in the front landscaped play area which has been made safe for kids to play in and enjoy.
